Barcify is a developer tool. It encodes the data you type into the AAMVA PDF417 format so you can test barcode scanners and build software. It is not a document issuing service, it is not affiliated with AAMVA, any DMV, or any government body, and using it to create or alter an identity document is prohibited and is a criminal offence in most countries.
01What Barcify does
Barcify generates two-dimensional PDF417 barcodes that follow the AAMVA DL/ID Card Design Standard, optionally alongside 1D barcodes (Code 128 or Code 39). Encoding happens in your browser: the field values you enter are used to build the payload and are rendered on your device. We do not transmit or store the barcode payload.
Intended uses include testing scanner hardware, exercising your own verifier software, teaching how the format is structured, and generating sample data for demos and documentation.
02Acceptable use
You may use Barcify only for lawful testing, development, research and educational purposes. In particular, you agree that you will not:
- use the output to create, alter, duplicate, or pass off any driver’s licence, identification card, or other government-issued document;
- print, embed, or display a generated barcode onto any card, surface, or medium intended to resemble an official identity document;
- present generated output to any person, scanner, or system as proof of identity, age, or entitlement;
- encode the personal data of another person without their authorisation, or any real person’s licence number, identity number, or photograph data;
- use Barcify to bypass age verification, access control, or any identity check;
- sell, licence, or distribute generated barcodes as identity documents, or offer Barcify as a service for doing so;
- attempt to break, overload, or reverse the service’s security or interfere with other users’ accounts.
Use synthetic data. Fields such as a licence number, name, and address have no need to be real for a scanner test.
We may suspend or delete any account, without notice, where we have reason to believe these rules have been broken.
03Accounts
- You must be at least 18 years old to hold an account.
- Give accurate details and keep your password confidential. Activity under your account is your responsibility.
- One account per person. Accounts are personal and may not be shared or transferred.
- You may close your account at any time by contacting us; see Privacy Policy for what happens to your data.
04Credits and payment
Revealing a barcode costs one credit. You can fill in the form, read the state rules and load samples without spending anything — the credit is only taken at the moment the barcode is rendered. New accounts start with a balance of zero and buy credits as they need them.
Further credits are sold in packages priced in Kenyan shillings, shown on your account page at the time of purchase. Payment is taken by Paystack, which accepts M-Pesa, Airtel Money and debit or credit cards. You pay on Paystack's own checkout page; we never see or receive your PIN or card number. Credits are added to your balance automatically once Paystack confirms the payment, usually within seconds.
What you should know before paying
- Credits are a prepaid usage balance, not an investment. They are non-transferable, cannot be exchanged for cash, and carry no interest.
- Prices can change. The price shown when you request credits is the price that applies to that request.
- All sales are final. Where the law requires a refund, or where we fail to deliver credits you paid for, we will refund the amount paid. Otherwise credits are non-refundable.
- We may reverse or suspend credits where a payment is reversed, disputed or charged back, or where these terms have been broken.
- We do not store your card, PIN or mobile-money credentials. The only payment information we keep is Paystack's transaction reference and the amount, method and channel the payment settled on.
- If a payment is taken but credits do not arrive, tell us within 30 days with the Paystack reference from your receipt, and we will either credit the balance or refund the payment. Payment disputes and chargebacks are handled through Paystack.
- Prices are quoted in Kenyan shillings. If you pay with a card issued in another currency, your bank sets the exchange rate and may add its own fee.
- We may adjust a balance to correct an error, and we may suspend an account for misuse; unused credits on a suspended account are not refundable where the suspension arises from a breach of these terms.
05Your content
You keep all rights to the data you enter. Because generation is client-side, we hold no copy of your barcode payloads. You are responsible for ensuring that anything you encode is lawful for you to use.
06Availability and changes
Barcify is provided free of charge, on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee uptime, and features may change or be removed. The service may be paused during idle periods or taken offline for maintenance.
07Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Barcify and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the service, including any loss caused by reliance on a generated barcode, by scanner misreads, or by the data you choose to encode. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
08Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the version number and effective date above. Continuing to use Barcify after a change means you accept the updated terms.
